Bob:

When MGA owners install a MGB engine, they loose the mechanical tach
drive off the cam unless they use the early 3 bearing MGB engine. So,
most of them install a MGB tach and convert the car to negative ground.
But, I think MGB tachs are 4" instruments rather then the 5" used on the
TD. MGA instruments are black and so are the MGB so there's no color
match problem. Even a MGB tach is the right 5" size you will still need
to have the black face redone to match the TD face. The only other
option would be to strip the guts out of the TD tach and put in
electronic guts provided that the needles have the same number of degree
sweep. The TD tach has something like a 270 degree sweep from 0 to 6000
RPM.
