The 4 speed gearbox in the RL411 SSS is different to the 4 speed that was
available in the regular PL411 sedans, the 1200 and 1300 engines have the
starter motor on the opposite side to the R series engine. The gearbox is
the same as the SP(L)311 Roadster 4 speed EXCEPT that the rear gearbox
extension and the rear main shaft on the RL411 is a couple of inches shorted
than the Roadster's.
I was recently talking to Tana Bryan at Vintage Datsun and she has a couple
of RL411 parts cars, it might be worth checking to see if they have a
gearbox. Their e-mail is vindats@gte.net
The auto box was a factory option on the RL411, I have a copy of a US sales
brochure showing the "New 3-speed Automatic Shift , enjoy sprightly no-shift
performance", if you like I can scan it and send you a copy.
