Not a good day.... Finished putting the doors back on and decided to take her out and see want the new cam was all about. Up to this point, there's about an hour's engine time with the new camshaft,

I'd first see if the engine is free or seized. If it is free, check the three obvious things: Fuel supply, Spark, Timing problem. Is the starter turning and just doesn't engage the flywheel but cont

Hi Joe, The starter engages the flywheel and stops immediately. The engine turns, maybe, a fraction of a degree, barely noticeable movement of the fan. I'm hoping the Spitfire gods will visit tonight

When you wake up tomorrow, see what it will do if you put in in fourth and give it a push it a bit. If it turns well you could have a starter problem. Do you live on a hill? Leon -- Yahoo! Platinum

I'd be curious if you can turn the engine over by hand. Try grabbing the fan blade and turning the engine slightly with that. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the starter simply wasn't strong enou

Ok, I put a wrench on the crankshaft nut and, with great effort, much more than normal, was able to turn the crank a bit counter-clockwise. Didn't try clockwise. So, it's probably not the starter. I'

What's the phrase ? "We got good news and bad news" The good news is the lower half of the motor, crank, pistons, connecting rods, etc, is ok, the cylinder head and valve train are ok. The bad news .

Hi Larry, Tell me more. How 'lumpy' at idle, power range, etc. Currently, my 1500 has 9.5:1 compression, twin HS4's, 4-2-1 header, and what used to be a good APT/Kent street performance cam, (soon to

That is very strange. Were you able to remove all the tappets? What about the distributor and oil pump drive gear? The cam turns at half the engine speed and does not have anywhere near the load of t

Hi Doug, All that stuff is out. The only thing I can't remove is the camshaft. Even tried a monkey wrench on it, it won't budge. It stopped very quickly, enough to cause the cam gear to snap the 2 bo
