Trying to open the joint and resealing it is really a poor choice. The right 
way 
is to replace the entire section that is leaking. And since this sounds like a 
very difficult procedure, I honestly would try an epoxy repair. Be certain the 
joint clean and roughened, and dry before application. Another option is to 
back 
weld the joint with a hot air welder. This is probably the best choice for a 
repair, and it could be topped with an epoxy for redundency, but a good epoxy 
repair should keep you should keep you in hot water for many years.
