I believe there are 2 types of the mainshaft for an A-type O/D gearbox of the 
TR6. The change is somewhere in the 1972 model en
later on a J-type was fitted. Part no of the latest A-type main shaft is 
UKC1933. It has the smaller tip to the inputshaft bearing.

You're not using the excellent article on the A type overdrive found on the 
Buckeye Triumphs technical site.
