I am halfway through replacing the interior in my early '67 and adding a
stereo system. Thought I would run my plans by the list and ask for input and
ideas. I have already scraped down the floor pans and painted them with POR
15. I plan to line pretty much the whole interior with a Dynamat style (Mega
Mat brand) sound deadening material. Then it will get new pads, carpets,
panels and a refurbished dash. My plan for the stereo is to use a
vintage-style cassette player head unit with a 4 channel amp and 4 5.25"
speakers and the headrest speakers in a set of Miata seats. I plan to mount
the speakers in the diagonal brace under the dash on both sides, and the
lowest pillar holes behind the seats. The amp will go under the dash on the
passenger side where the speaker box used to be.
Might there be any potential problem with cutting the holes for the speakers
in those locations? I will need to cut two 5" holes in the diagonal braces
and enlarge the pillar holes from 4.25" to 5". Do the speakers in the rear
holes need an enclosure behind them? Any problem with running the headrest
speakers in parallel with the front set? That would be one 5.25" and 2
headrest speakers on each front channel. I am looking at Pyle brand speakers
and a Legacy 300 watt 4-channel amp. Any advice or ideas would be
appreciated!
