My 2 cents,
Although I never owned an MGB My first car was a MGA, different chassis but
basically the same engine and running gear. Fun to drive, but as all know,
lots of reliability issues. Everybody knows about Lucas electrics, but the
most unreliable electric part I had was the SU fuel pump mounted on the
chassis just in front of the rear wheel. The strangest unreliable part was
the clutch throwout bearing used on the MGA and at least the early MGBs with
the non syncro 1st gearbox. It had no bearings! it was made of a solid
non-rotating piece of graphite in the shape of a donut. So every time you
stepped on the clutch, it wore. And like the roadster, you had to remove the
engine to get to the clutch and transmission. And lastly, with two six volt
batteries in series, the cost of replacement was always fun.
