You can probably buy a used one from the British Auto Salvage in Walworth, NY near Rochester. Joe Mato

The diffs on Stag, TR and the big six Triumph saloon all had a splash of different coloured paint on them. Not in any particular place on the housing and the colours and colour combos told the production workers the model and whether manual, manual/overdrive or automatic gearbox. I?ve got the colour codes somewhere for the Big Six saloon but not TR or Stag. They all looked the same but there were some detail differences that meant they weren?t necessarily interchangeable as complete units across different models.

WIth the no. of British car specialists retiring, what is a typical cost to
have a diff rebuilt with new bearings and crown wheel and pinion?

I have? a Stag, but the diff is similar to that of a TR6.

Unless its really important to have the car 100% stock, don?t go there.? For not much more (and yes I know this is for a TR6) we put in a Nissan Q45 limited slip diff.? www.goodparts.com <http://www.goodparts.com>? has all the info and goodies.? The stag and TR6 drivetrains are pretty similar.?

10 years ago?? I think it was around $700 plus here in Texas.? California will obviously be more.

I spent about a grand in getting my Nissan diff in.? It is so much quieter,
and the limited slip is a bonus if you like to go fast around corners.? It
would have been more, but I got the diff at a u pull it yard for well under
$100 from an infinity Q45.

Sujit,

Any competent driveline shop can work on these.? I have been taking LBC differentials to one of several popular off road specialists (Dan?s Driveline) here in Vegas for over 20 years.?

There is nothing magic about Triumph differentials that they haven?t seen.

I live in Silicon Valley and sadly with the cost of? real estate all the
shops here are shutting shop. The Nissan option seems interesting, but some
modification will have to be done as the Stag has a different mount at the
front.? Folks in the UK do a BMW diff swap on the Stag.
I'll most likely stick with my Stag dif.

I replaced mine years ago.? Not that difficult but you do have to work
under the dash and I think that the glove box liner has to come out.? If
you are installing a used one make sure that you tighten the rivets that
hold the use holders in place.? Over the years the plastic shrinks which
causes then to be loose which makes for intermittent electrical connections.

Please contact me directly if you have a very nice TR4 TR4A original banjo steering wheel that you would be willing to sell.  I am working on refreshing my 72k orig mile 67 TR4A and want to bring it back to original condition.  It has a used wooden aftermarket wheel bought about 30 years ago.  Fixing this car up to give to my daughter in the near future (she is not allowed to ever sell it ?)

Ah jeez. I should have asked this same question five years ago.

If there?s more than one very nice original banjo TR4/TR4A steering wheel available, I?d be interested after Jim gets his.

I got one with in pretty good shape except for a small crack on the left

they don?t show what you want to see.

OK,

I just checked and I have 2 4 steering wheels. One is cracked some what
and the other one is much better. If these fit both 4 and 4a let me
know. I can post photos.

The cracked one could be fixed with epoxy filler and then covered with a
leather wheel skin. I have the wheel skins on my 3 and 4 and love them.

Email me Jim and Greg. I figure Jim gets first dibs. Cost would be
shipping + 2$ for a beer at my local American Legion!

Email is: yellowtr at adelphia.net
