Interior coatingWhen I was young I worked at the local airport where the SOP was linseed oil inside the airplanes steel tube frames. The Brits use Waxol under floors and inside frames. Take your pick. Old motor oil would help if done every year. Joe

Hey all ~

Anyone ever had experience with POR-15 vs. Eastwood's Chassis Black.
Pluses or minuses anywhere?

Thanks for any feedback,

I used POR-15 on my TR3 a in 2007, ground and sandblasted  chassis, by the time I sold the car in 2013 I noticed some peeling.  The following car, I just had the chassis thoroughly sandblasted and used black tractor paint from Tractor Supply, looked great but have no experience on the lasting ability, will use it again next time.

...over recent years I've started to wonder why people use either. The
oem was normal body paint.

Recent exploits chopping into a triumph frame, I found the inside was
coated as well, and to be in near perfect condition. Most were
'auto-coated' anyway with enough oil to to preserve the outside as well
(unless you were sitting in a field for years of course.

I used POR-15 on my frame back in 2004.  Remains perfectly intact.  Oddly, it seems to work better if one simply wire brushes the surface since it's meant to stick to rust.  Maybe sandblasting is doing too good a job?

Then I poured used motor oil inside, flipped the frame every which way to coat the interior, and seem to have had success stopping any malignant corrosion in there.  All that said, the frame, as someone else noted, was amazingly strong, despite floors and lower panels being rotted out.

By the way, anyone recommend a "best" extreme cold-weather headgear for top down driving below 40 degrees?

Thanks, Terry ~

I've never heard anyone say that a thorough wire brushing may be
sufficient. I sertainly wouldn't mind skipping the $300 cost of media
blasting, if a thorough cleaning by wire, etc. would be sufficient. It's
getting at all those "nooks and crannies" of the front suspension and shock
tower areas that concerns me (even with media blasting).

"Flipping the frame over every which way" sounds interesting. That's a bit
of a task for a 200 lb frame, though.... Was that AFTER you used the POR-15?

Paul;

The frame of my TR3 was not "out in a field" but was sitting under the car
in a Vermont barn for 30 years, the passenger side main rail was [rusted]
'toast.' I have now effected repairs and hope never to have to do all that
again. No doubt, interior coating would be a great help as many folks have
already told me they've done. But I see no sign of interior coating from
the factory, on my frame....
