It depends entirely on the individual club. Both CSRG and HMSA have a
"strong recommendation" for a roll bar, but no specification as to its
construction. Every car I've seen Peter Giddings drive had none (Alfa
8C2300, Tipo C, Maserati 250F). Most of the early Formula Juniors have
them, but some are pretty minimal. With the addition of a longitudinal
brace and some padding, mine actualy meets the "vintage" SCCA regs.

Of course, the Brits accuse us unwashed Yanks of driving around with
"oil derricks" over our heads. ;=)
