Scene: The "cyclone" at Thunderhill....(For those unfamilar , it is a sharp,
downhill left hand turn at the top of a short, steep uphill run.)
Car #1 crests the hill , turns left and dives over the top and down and gets
a little sideways on the exit.... Car #2 following closley behind backs off
and moves a bit to the left to avoid hitting car #1 and is then hit from
behind by car #3....
No big damage, no spins, everyone gathers it up and continues on..But BODY
CONTACT!!!....Do we send driver #3 home?
Another scene..The esses at sears point. Car #1 finds some oil and looses it
in the second turn(8 b) spins and comes rolling back across the track
backwards as car#2 comes through 8 a...Car #2 has no choice but to go "4
wheels off " to the right to avoid car #1.
Both cars gather it up and continue on down the track.
These are both real life expierences... Neither of these "incidents" were the
result of overaggresive driving or non-vintage spirit driving. They are just
the kind of things that can happen out on a race track. And in both cases no
one was sent home or given "points".. There was a "no harm, no foul" attitude
it seems..No one was really " at fault" ...Things happen. You pay your money
and you take your chances as someone once said....
