Hey.... that wasn't a bad weekend! One time at Grattan I had a shifter fork
come loose in practise. The spare tranny was 5 hours away on a Friday
afternoon thru Chicago getaway traffic. My Crew Chief brother Don and I found
a 4x4 sign post, hooked a chain to it, lifted out the engine and trans (with
the oil still in it) fixed the gearbox, re-installed it and made the next
session 2 hours later.
Another time I went thru 5 axles in a weekend at Grattan. The culprit turned
out to be the hub itself, not the bearing. Since swapping out the hub,
getting some factory comp axles, and keeping an eye on bearing wear, I've
only broken 1 axle in a year.
