Agree about WD-40, it is a nice mild solvent generally won't remove set up
paint or dissolve plastics like lacquer thinner, acetone or reducer can,
but cleans off gummy residues and paints and coatings that haven't set.
Will use it to clean old sticky mechanisms and gummed up grease and apply
appropriate lube after cleaning.

Probably shouldn't, but sometimes a light spray to clean off stuff from my
hands that isn't conventional soap and water soluble.
