So you cannot take an overdrive out of a TR6 without taking out the doghouse.
But you can remove it without taking out the trany.
B
The story so far:
Friend bought a 72 TR6 at an unbelievable deal. Looked great, ran good, and
needed a little finishing. As he gets into it there are lots of DPO stories.
B
When reversing the car would kind of jump, jump, jump its way back. You
guys suggested the o/d was stuck engaged. Too late it seemed as very quickly
he found the following symptoms. It was really hard to get it into first gear
and once driven that way it was near impossible to get into 2nd gear. Once in
second it was stuck and would not come out.
B
Car was put into storage.
B
We
had been told/heard that a Volvo J type would work.
B
He bought a working J
type from a friend who had a Volvo. Pretty sure itbs good.
Problem we found
is that the rear casing is not set up for a Speedo drive.
B
We pulled the old
o/d apart and found metal filings in the filters and front casing, but not in
the back casing. I was expecting to see broken teeth and lumps of metal.
B
So
my questions are:
B
What did he break in the original o/d?
If we clean out
the back casing and not disturb the innards, can we just swap them over?
What
type of oil goes in the o/d and how much?
How do you get the oil in the o/d?
