Likewise, this past Saturday, it was 80 degrees F. in north Texas (Denton,
north of Dallas area) and my son and I hit the road in my 76 TR6. This
same TR6 is about to go through a complete front and rear brake and
suspension renewal this winter (hence many of the questions I have asked
and will continue to ask this list!), but given the beautiful, warm day, I
couldn't resist taking to the road even with the worn out bushings, ball
joints, tie rods, etc. My son washed and waxed the TR6, and in return, I
let him drive it a bit (he's 17). After some hard lessons in the
unforgiving nature of a TR6 clutch, he seemed to get the feel for it (good
thing that the diff mounts are on my list to replace!). We drove out
into horse and ranch country north of Denton (Pilot Point, Aubrey, and
many other little towns that most people have never heard of). The car
rolled through 55,000 miles on the odometer while we were out. It struck
me at that point that the TR6 had only a little over 43,000 miles when I
bought it over 13 years ago. I've put less than an average of 1000 miles
per year on it. Maybe once I get the suspension tight, I will want to
put more miles on it! I've noticed over the years that most of the
problems that have developed on the car are from not driving it enough.
ps. This morning, it was 40 degrees here.
