Tom,

The first two things to check are transmission fluid level and inhibit
switch adjustment.  If the level is too low the pump will starve and the
overdrive will not engage due to lack of pressure.  The other problem I
have encountered is an inhibit switch that was adjusted marginally and
would sometimes close and sometimes not.  A little adjustment fixed the
problem.
