It's odd the differences of opinion of the TR specialists on the subject of
valve seals.

I have the work I don't have time for done at a place specializing in LBCs
in Montreal. The mechanics there told me that whenever they have to do an
LBC engine head job, they specifically don't install valve seals so that the
guides get some lubrication. They claimed that the typical LBC head oiling
is so poor that their trick is required. Sounds odd I know, but they claim
it works for them. Perhaps they were only talking about certain motors, but
that's their practice.

George,

The engine machinist has a supply of teflon seals from modern domestic
cars.
My guy just used the best fit based on valve diameter and size. He then

custom cuts the inside of the top of the vavle guide to accept the
teflon
seals.

They work great... I have NO or almost no oil lose all through the
driving
season and get no smoke out the exhaust pipe no matter how I rev the
engine.
