Since an A-type, overdrive gearbox has the same "footprint" as the
standard TR gearbox, it will fit in any TR that's formerly had a
standard 4 speed. My brother's '76 TR6 with A-type overdrive is a case
in point.

There are minor differences between the TR4 and TR6 gearboxes inside the
bell housing such as the longer input shaft and, possibly, the throwout
bearing assembly, depending on whether the TR4 was late enough to have
used the diaphragm clutch. These are simple to correct.
