        Wire wheels can not be chromed without significant metal fatigue.  
There was
an excellent article on this in one of the British Car magazines. Can't
remember which on though.  Chromed wire wheels (the ones you buy) are actually
chromed rims with stainless steel spokes, if I remember right.  You may be
able to chrome the inner and outer hubs and then re build the wire wheel with
new stainless steel spokes, but it seems like a lot of work.  The comment
about the splines is dead on.  If they are not sharp, consider them marginal.
It is suggested that you put new adapters on with new wheels and vice versa.
And don't forget to grease the splines before putting them on.  Have you ever
tried to remove a rusted on wire wheel? You're better off cuttinng the whole
damn thing from the axle.
