Mr.. Vincent has an interesting mesh of stuff, yes?

I understand his trannys or of high quality and higher price. I too have a
'69 GT and its' box had problems as well. Much of what you describe as
having is what I discovered on my own when forced to mate 3 boxes to make
one. I cannot remember what parts specifically came from what (i.e.: this
is long term memory here but I do have notes somewhere) but you must have
ALL the VB catalogues and a working knowledge of TRansmissions (see TRF
manual for pages of good info)

The input gear from early to late GT is different. The late style has the
larger synchro as well but it is not available anymore and is not
interchangeable with anything else. This is why you STILL have your early
one, which IS available.

The cluster gear (lower)must mate with the GT6 input gear as above. This
gear can be a stock TR7 cluster gear or your original GT6 gear. but this
original gear is hundreds of dollars - when it is available - so most
people make the BL "warranty" swap of a different reverse idler, 1/2 synchro
hub, and cluster gear . This is AS expensive but gives you a stronger box.

Because of the cluster gear interchange problem though, hybrids like yours
are created with TR7 gears. By using TR7 gears on a GT6 mainshaft you get 3
out of 4 larger synchros, steel bushings for each gear (not bronze) and
the use of an original TR7 cluster gear.

I have absolutely no idea about those bronze bushings in the cluster gear
but I suspect that they are a more reliable replacement of Mr.. Vincent's
design. (I'd love some measurements). As for the input bushing, I had a
similar problem on mine. Some DPO had done that conversion but neglected
the bearing in front. The wear cause extra load on the bronze bushing and
eventually took it out. I was left with the need to drill out a pressed in
bushing. In my case, the correct needle bearing fit back in easily.

So how's that for "know your car" week?

Any comments anybody?
