Mark, I don't think that is "common."  The way I have done it was to agree on
a price and then we send the part and the money at the same time.

I have never been "stiffed" by anyone on the list.  But for a really high
value item, which I have not purchased, there might be some more negotiating
required.  Folks on the list have a reputation from their e-mail content and
there is the ultimate threat of revealing a "scam" to the list.

As always, caveat emptor, but the people here are good folks and the danger is
minimal, IMO.  Cheers.
