Hi Gang,
In working on the Spit this weekend, I finally got a chance to test a
theory I have been playing with. I always wondered how you could get 90
weight gear oil in the front trunions when I can't find a grease gun
cartridge filled with the stuff.
Because I ran out of grease in my gun, I unscrewed the end and poured
about a pint of 90 weight gear oil into the empty tube and reattached
the end. After pumping quite a bit of air out of the gun, I discovered
that if the gun is held higher than the grease nipple, the oil can
indeed be pumped into the trunion.
Whether it will "stay" in there is a different matter!
So now I know.
