Way back when (1980) I bought a brand new 1980 TR-7 Convertible. The
car was great - until the weather changed. When the temperature
dropped, I found it almost impossible to shift the gears. A trip to the
dealer solved the problem. The 5 sp trans was filled with standard gear
lube at the factory. The dealer had a service bulletin concerning the
shifting problem. They drained the gear lube and replaced it with
Automatic Trans Fluid. Problem solved! (The explanation was that the
gear mesh tolerances were much tighter than earlier units and the
standard gear lube was just to thick!
