Larry,
Didn't you tell em the Commission Number is 99248U?  If So, according to my
reference material this is a Federal Car and not a California Car.  Now It
could be that it has been converted to California Emissions standards if it
was brought in from out of state.  However, if it has a UC suffix, it would
be a California Spit.  I don;t know what the current California standards
require, especially since the recent passage of that legislation.  It may
save you some headaches if you check into the requirements.
