Dan,
The TR8 alloy wheels installed on my TR7 Spider also have
the shouldered lug nuts. The wheel is centered by the central
tapered boss where the wheel bearing dust cap is installed on
the front and is the end of the axle shaft n the rear. The
center hole on the wheel is tapered on the wheel and matches
the taper of the hub and axle shaft. The shouldered lug nuts
I have also have some clearance. The lug nuts simply hold
the wheel on with the centering handled by the central boss.
This may or may not be the case on your TR6, but should be
worth checking out.
