Peter,

After years of usage, you will get a small seepage and an accumulation of
crud in the center chamber of the PDWA. As long as the center area is not
filled, and it's not actively flowing brake fluid, you should be OK.

As a quick check of the master cylinder, start the car to activate the power
assist, and apply firm pressure to the brake pedal. Hold a steady pressure on
the pedal for about 30 seconds. Does the pedal slowly creep down to the
floor? If it does you surely have a defective master brake cylinder. Fluid
flowing by the internal seals will give you a soft to non-existant (very
scary and unsafe) pedal and there will be no external leakage.
