hi,

not just "old" warships. even the wwII warships, like the
north carolina & iowa class battleships used teak for decks.
modern cruse ships have teak decks as well. it's great stuff
but will dull any blade or bit in no time because of all of
the silica in the wood. btw the $230 for a dash is mostly labor
and markup. teak is not endangered rain forest wood, just
not a local crop.
