Francois,
at school I seem to remember that we were told 'bricolage' meant 'DIY' 
(i.e. Do It Yourself). Whilst DIY can mean a 'bodge job' it doesn't 
necessarily - plenty of DIYers can do decent work. I expect 'bricolage' 
is the nearest French equivalent but it's probably true to say that, as 
with so many words, there is no direct translation.
