TR-6 glovebox design

Dear all,

Last night I noticed the glovebox light of my 71 TR-6 was flashing on and off 
while driving, due to vibration. It seemed a simple fix would be to bend the
tab for the latch in a bit to hold the door in a little tighter, thereby
removing the scope for the switch to close. Having done this, I found that I
could no longer easily (relatively speaking) open the door, since this requires
simultaneous depression of the button and pulling on the exposed edge of the
door with one's fingertips. Which led me to wonder - am I the only one to think
this design to be remarkably silly? Or am I missing something regarding the
recommended method of opening the thing? How would one even get it open if the 
glovebox door fit flush with the dash like one might suppose it should?

By the way, last night I had a look at the relevant pages in the TRF catalogue.
It showed the presence of a fingerpull piece, which one would pull on while
depressing the button. Seems to make sense. Reading the fineprint, however, I
found that this part was 'not fitted to TR6'. Why not? Why is it in the TR-6
catalog? Is it something that is retrofitted to alleviate above-mentioned
glovebox-opening angst? Sure enough, none of the interior photographs I looked 
at
s showed this fingerpull fitted.
