I had a similar problem a year ago. After frying two Petronix Ignitor
modules, we traced it down to a voltage spike coming from my Mallory coil
under high heat (summer and idling). I replaced the coil and all has been
well since.

thanks Bill, first the easy bit, yes I am in Wiltshire - just down the road
from your good self.
the system I have installed is the Petronix Ignitor which is a true
integrated system, replacing the points etc. Am presently trying to find
all my original distributor parts to try and identify if its the electronic
ignition or something else.
