Boot Rack on roundtail?

Anyone have experience of fitting a boot rack to an early spit?  Was it
successful?  Some sites selling bootracks will say their products work on, e.g.
MG Midget but not on MGB because of the slope of the tail.

My other concern is distorting the boot lid panel.  They're not ten-a-penny.

I'm planning a few-hundred mile trip in a couple of weeks and it would be nice
to have that little extra luggage space.
