Get one of those little pumps and transfer the gear oil to an old engine
oil container and pump it up into the fill hole...works like a champ!

Are you suggesting removing the shifter lever and
pouring the oil into its socket?  If you were to do this,
the oil would immediately go all over the ground!

You should be able to get to the filler plug from below.
It's awkward, and you will get your hand filthy,
but it's definitely doable.
