Wayne;

Check out pellet stoves. All the pleasure and heat of a wood stove, and none
of the grunt work. I bought one to supplement the electric heat in my house,
and it has become the prime source due to the cost of the fuel, and the
nature of the heat. No need for an expensive flue, as they are positively
vented by an exhaust fan. The fire box is a "closed loop" system, drawing in
outside air for combustion, and blowing out the exhaust after heating tubes
that have inside air circulated through them and through the heated living
space.

A ton of pellets comes in 50 forty pound bags, and provides the heating
equivilent of 1 1/2 tons of split hardwood. Here where I live, pellets cost
$150 Cdn. per ton. The fuel is clean, efficient and very green: the pellets
are made from wood chip scrap from manufacturing processes, and would
otherwise be burned off as waste or sent to a landfill.I have had mine for
nine years and love it.
Oh yes, these stoves are considered "zero" clearance units, and can be put
6" from a normal wall without fear of burning it up.
