shop vac's are big, bulky, noisy, can suck up lot's of liquid, and thus
appeal to men.  House vac's are small, quiet, efficient, have rug beaters,
and thus appeal to women.  she'd be pissed if you bought her a shop vac, and
she needed a Hoover upright...(been there, tried that, didn't do it, thank god!)
