I gave my wife her 1955 MG TF 1500 today. She wasn't totally surprised
(kind of hard to hide all the work and strange trips away from home to
work on the car), but boy, does she like it. We just came back from her
first drive. She sure looks good in it, and will look even better after it
is painted. She is leaning toward creme, but will not decide until
visiting some paint shops. I have downloaded a couple hundred pictures of
MG Ts for her to look at, so she is busy with that now. I had the seats
reupholstered in red, since it matched all but the green for stock body
colors (and got her matching red driving gloves).
Mike Goodman did a super job of rebuilding the engine, fuel system,
cooling system, and braking system. The engine is better then new. You
name it, it was done. Radiator roded, generator rebuilt, carbs
overhauled, engine balanced, brake cylinders sleeved, etc etc etc. And in
less then two months. Mike was very nice about allowing my son and myself
to visit the shop on Saturdays to do some of the work ourself. He also let
me take items home to clean and paint. A wonderful person.
I guess the car really is my wife's, and not mine. When I sit in it,
my
view is right through the top of the windshield (I am 5' 11"). After
adjusting the seat for my wife (5' 0") I can not even get into the drivers
seat. I will be adjusting the pedals and steering wheel to fit her better.
Expensive Christmas, but since this is also her 20th anniversary
present
(March 7), I think it was worth every penny.
