The aluminum is softer and weaker than the steel bolts so every time a bolt
is threaded or unthreaded the aluminum wears much more than the steel. Studs
are the way to go.
I'll second that. Plus you never know what shape the threads are in the
block, if they are stretch or not. With studs you and Lock-Tite them in place
and
be sure to use washers under the nuts, and some oil on the studs as you
toque them down.That will give you a better reading.
Youth would be an ideal state if it came a little later in life.
