I know this is an old thread, but just listen up.

Last Friday I was looking out one of the back windows of my house towards
the garage and I saw three kittens in it, right next to my roadster. I was
quite suprised to see them, so I gathered the family and we went out to
look. The kittens scattered and after much chasing around the garage, we
were able to capture one of them. It was feral, but very cute. I got a bunch
of scratches on my hand from her.

To understand how a cat can have kitten in my garage and they grow up there
(the kittens are about 6 weeks old) and no one notices, you'd have to see my
garage. It's 2 1/2 cars wide and about 30' deep, and has a small attic.
Since we don't have a basement, it's the catch-all for our house. There are
piles of boxes, parts, furniture, toys, bikes, you name it, it's out there.
Because of this, there are many very good spots for the little critters to
hide in. I've been working on my car out there and hadn't noticed them...

Also, over the winter, we had another guest in our garage. Occasionally we
see a raccoon around our trash (it's easy to tip and gobble some goodies),
but when I went up in the attic a few months ago, I noticed that something
had been living up there. A roll of insulation had been smushed into a nice
bed, and a box with some styrofoam packing material had been chewed up a bit
to make another comfy bed. We happened to close the garage door, which we
normally keep open, and saw raccoon footprints in the dust, all over the
door. So not only have we had a cat give birth to three kittens, but we had
a raccoon overwinter, 20' from our house.

As for the kitten, we are going to keep the one we captured. She's pretty
tame now, with the kids man-handling her. We took her to the vet for the
first round of shots. She's healthy, didn't even have worms, just a stomach
infection, which we have medicine for. Our other cat is getting used to the
idea - he's stopped hissing at her, he just avoids her now.
