Ross:

Thanks to you and the USPS, the rad hose arrived before noon today,
brought directly to me by the mailman, while I was still struggling to
remove the 3-5/16ths inch bolt on the "driver's side" of the water
pump.  Took 4 hours!  Breaking it loose was hard, but the hardest part
was getting the bolt out.  Apparently, the completely filled threads
caused the threaded portion of the bolt to be slightly greater in
diameter than the holes in the spacer and water pump.  ((Had to
eventually use 3 vise grips around the shaft of the bolt to pry against
while rotating the bolt!)  It appears that I can reuse the bolt after
cleaning the threads, but I'd rather have a new one.

What kind of bolt is it?  The head is 12mm, and it is 20 tpi.  A
3/8th-16 die will chase the threads about 1/4 " before starting to get
tight.  I would like to chase the threads in the block so I presume I'll
need to get a metric tap approximating 3/8ths.

The hose I received is "pretty different" than the last one I got from
you.  It's about 3" longer, and configured really differently.  You
recall I had to use "bailing wire" to hold the previous one away from
the crank pulley.  Will have to see if the new one will fit better--at
this point I'm sorta unsure.

I quit work after I got that #$%$ed bolt out, but didn't understand WHY
the pump didn't want to come off.  Removed the two bolts and the 12mm
nut from the stud on the passenger side.  I tapped it (fairly hard) with
a block of wood to break it loose, so it would rotate about the stud so
I could pull it off.  Seemed "solid as a rock".  Shouldn't be anything
holding it--flat surface with two ports.  Only difference from previous
ones I've replaced is that the '68 has that spacer that the 67-1/2
didn't have.  Same water pump.  What am I missing?

Appreciate any help on what I thought was going to be an easy
replacement.
