Hello,

About two years ago I lost my brakes when driving 'cross-country. It took me
about half an hour and it turned out to be a cracked brake line. The same
one you are talking about installing. Anyway, mine was running just
underneath the carbs. I beleive that it uses the same welded metal clips as
the radiator hose.

So.... I finally did get that line changed in 100+ weather in a parking lot
of a Best Western in Albuquerque NM. It was about the worst experience I
ever had. And I had some pretty bad ones in the Army. ;>)

About painting the car I would paint with the engine out. It you do nick the
body you can touch it up. After all, what would you rather have...? A
freshly painted and slightly nicked and touched up engine bay or a bay with
old paint that probably already has nicks and the like.
