paint strippers

I'm removing years of old paint (and some Bondo) in preparation for some
body repair and repainting on my Roadster. Anyone have better luck with
one type of paint stripper over another? I'm using Strip-X  and it seems
to do a pretty good, though messy, job, and it doesn't cost a fortune
per gallon.  Just thought I'd ask around if something works better on
automotive finishes.
