Premature tensioner foot wear, possibly tensioner failure.  I haven't ever seen 
that....(but I also haven't
ever seen one run w/o freeplay).

I should have mentioned camstand shims to eliminate the slack, but it sounds 
like it's a little
late for those!

What kind of probelms could come up if there not enough freeplay in the upper 
chain tensioner? Just curious.
