i think you will find that the comprehensive insurance is much much less
than the collision, so having a low deductible isnt expensive like
collision.  also their is often small, annoying damage like vandalism or
tree/wind damage.

i made 2 claims in a 18 month period.  my first question before the second
claim was "will this raise my premuim"

collision, OTOH is a different story.  i doubt it pays to make a claim in
most cases- they will just get back anything they paid to you by raising
your rates.  also you have to consider the gap between the premuim amount
and the totaled value of the car minus the dedictible.  thats all you have
to get, and most older cars will be totaled, not repaired, due to their low
valuation.  so collision makes sense for new, valuable cars.

when i had collision insurance, i raised it to the highest deductible.
