Well put! You sound like a Martin Gardner afficionado (I sure am). Always
refreshing to hear the voice of the rational skeptic.

Well, Windows Media Player 7 plays the internet
version fine (but small and dark). And it's obviously a
hoax by Lelouch! If you watch carefully, you see that the
sound track gives you the impression of very high speed.

But watch as he passes cars on the street -- many with
brake lights on, some turning. Think about how fast cars
would go by if you were passing at a relative speed of
50-75 mph -- no way! The camera appears to me to be
driving at about 40-50 mph tops. Maybe a little faster.
But nowhere as fast as the rpms and gear would have you
think.

So I propose that he dubbed on a high speed sound track
on a video taken at speeds just a little above regular
road speed, and made us all think this was a death-defying
trip through Paris. The dubbing was done very skillfully,
though! One item that seems off, though, is the tire squeals --
they don't seem well synchronized with the screen effect,
and are too flat and consistent to be a real-time recording.

Proof would be to identify the route he took on a Paris
map and checking the distance travelled vs time taken.
Maybe when I have an idle day I'll set my sceptical
little self down and figure it out. But I'm not buying it
for now! YMMV.
