It is.  The transfer case doesn't have a differential unit.  It's locked 
up, driving the front and rear differentials the same speed.  When you 
turn, the front tires cut a different arc than the rears which means they 
rotate at a different speed.  The transfer case doesn't like that.  Moral 
of the story?  Don't drive in 4WD unless you need it! :-)
