SCCA Old Dominion Region as well as every local club in these parts uses
a time-tested method of letting participants pick a number and running them in
15 car groups with your work being done in the heat after you run. You can
select a number from what is available and run early or late as you choose and
be done with your run and your work and on your way when it suits you.
I've experienced the all day marathon of 2 runs in the morning and 2 in
the afternoon when I have ventured over to the next state to run and it is one
factor that keeps me from going there anymore.
