I believe the shop manual instructs you to install the engine and
transmission separately. I have had my engine and transmission out
twice and both times followed the instructions in the manual. If I
recall correctly, you lower the engine into the engine bay by
supporting the rear of the engine on a jack or jack stand and then bolt
the motor mounts. The transmission is then brought in through the
passenger door and installed on the engine. I used my floor jack with
a board to support the transmission and used the wheels on the floor
jack to help me properly position and mate the transmission input shaft
through the pressure plate and the clutch disk and into the pilot
bearing. Both times I was by myself when I installed the transmission
and it went together fairly easily.

Hi guys,

I know this has to have been discussed previously, but I am interested
in experiences reinstalling a TR6 engine and transmission as a unit as
compared to individually. I removed them separately and used a floor
engine hoist to remove the engine.

I don't know if I would have tried this with the floor hoist, but I now
have a 10' high steel I-beam with a 2-ton trolley and chain hoist in my
garage (along with the floor hoist).

It would seem to be easier to assemble the engine and transmission
prior to installation, but maybe it is very hard steering the "long
lump" home.

Any experiences/opinions/advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

best,

doug
