        James:

Paid $550 for TR6 hardtop on eBay, plus shipping (crating +
motor freight = $200).

Plan on painting it when you get it, and you will need to
install a new headliner if it has not already been done. The OEM
headliner gets extremely fragile over time and even if in good shape it
will split at the slightest touch. Additionally, the glue used to attach
the liner bleeds through the fabric and you get ugly yellow smears
appearing all over the place. If it were just the stains, you could
simply paint the liner with a dye or flexible paint - but that will not
keep it from splitting.
You will not be able to get a ready to use hard top for less
than $1000 when you factor in paint, shipping, headliner, and any other
bits (seals, hardware, etc). And that assumes there are no rust repairs
needed.

Can't comment on a Surrey top, but since they are even more rare
than factory TR6 hardtops, I would guess you will spend even more and
that is before you adapt it to fit on your TR6.

        Vance

---i don't think my original email went through....sorry if this is a
repeat---

Every now and then I see a Surrey Top on a TR250 or TR4...I always
thought
this would lookawesome on a TR6. In fact, sometimes i secretly wish i
had a
TR250 or TR4 or 5 because the lines are awesome and the Surrey Top looks
really cool. but i own a tr6. :-)so, does anyone share my desires and
use a
surrey top set up on their 6? :-) I suppose these tops are really rare,
huh?
and not really 'meant' for a TR6... anyway, I know ebay has one every so
often
- what is a decent price to pay? any good leads for an original TR6 hard
top?
What would those cost for one in excellent shape? i suppose both surrey
and
regular hard top cost about the same, huh? -jt
