I had been using the stock ZS carbs on my car for the first few years
I had it and they worked very well. The engine has about the same
mods that you describe for your car.

Since then I've experimented with several different carb setups on my
74 TR6, including a set of the weber downdrafts. I finally ended up
with a pair of 175 CD carbs from a TR4 and a custom linkage when I
stopped fooling around and settled back down to just driving the car.

I bought the webers used in very good shape and they ran well but
somewhat rich which I didn't try to adjust out. I don't recall any
particular problems with them, I was just into trying some different
setups. They are sitting in my garage along with two sets of weber
side drafts, a Good parts triple carb set up that I've never used and
some other oddities.

Any of the carbs, including the Z-S, should work well if they are in
good shape and properly set up.
