If you have any mechanical ability a mig welder will work pretty darn easy. 
I learned to weld in 15 minutes, but getting good takes a little longer. The 
110 volt welders work very well, $400+/- $50 will get you a decent one. 
Don't even mess with a flux core welder, get the gas it's worth the extra 
money and the welds are a lot cleaner.
I got very lucky and my parts car had a good battery box, bad thing is the 
parts car body was better than the '69 I restored. That's a story in 
itself...gotta keep the '69's alive.
