Note: the way I remove Spridget springs is to put the (floor) jack under the outer A-arm, jack it up until the upper arm moves off the stop, unbolt the upper end of the kingpin, then lower the A-arm.

Probably since the gears in Sprite/Midget gearboxes come from Mini transmissions, which run in the engine sump. I assume the gears, bearings, clearances, etc were designed and tested with motor oil

I had this problem. It was caused by too much retard on the ignition. Every time the vacuum retard kicked in the engine tried to stall. Solution: advance the ignition. :-) May be a bad bypass valve.
